multiple choice trivia

I really enjoy playing the trivia game, I think it's really fun and I enjoy general knowledge quizzes. However, I think the trivia game on here should be multiple choice, therefore you have only a set number of answers it could possibly be, what I find annoying is you get penalised just for spelling the answer wrong. The game could be in the same format just with multiple choice questions or there could be a new game where when you go onto trivia, you are presented with the list of categories with two extra options, general knowledge and random category. When you click on a category, you will be given 10 multiple choice questions on that category. Each correct answer could be worth a set number of points e.g. 5 but if you get them all right you get double the amount of points you should get e.g. if you had 50 points, you would actually get 100. There should also be user stats showing most questions answered and most questions correct for each category.

I agree!

That is an exolent idea.

If such a thing is possable to coad, that'd be awesome!

I like the idea of multiple choice trivia. I also think it would be nice to be able to pick the category or categories you would like to answer questions from.

I think a multiple choice category should be added to the existing trivia questions that are already there. and yes, I do agree, the spelling shouldn't have to be *exact*. For example, if two words, according to the database's answer, are separated by a dash and you put a space between them instead, you're automatically wrong, despite the fact you basically had the right answer.

I'd say that if a multiple choice category were to be added, the bet max should be lower, at least on that particular category since there's always a slight chance you could just guess the answers right. Or, like others have suggested, maybe you could choose between either written answer questions with better payouts, or multiple choice questions with lower payouts. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

The trick to multiple choice is finding question. So, who wants to wie a few thousand questions? Ready set go. Other points are also noted though.

at jage- there is a website called fun trivia

www.funtrivia.com

lots of diffrent quizzes with multiple choice ansers- maybe pick some from that site?. i'm not sure

I could think up some trivia questions in different categories, with different answers and a correct answer. I'll write a document if you want it. If not, someone else might.

Interesting ideas. Funtrivia is likely out though as they probably wouldn't be too happy with us just ripping their questions.

Maybe there should be a submit questions form on the site but your account keeps a record of any submitted questions so they cannot come up when playing the game. Also, they have to be approved before going up on the site publically in the trivia database. And, for the categories, there should be a 'trivia settings' page with a list of checkboxes for each category, and only the categories whose checkboxes you check can come up. And, there should be a selection dropdown box where you can select from multiple choice, own answer or both for the type of questions that come up when playing. And also, I agree with the thing about pay-outs and bets, bets for multiple choice questions should have a lower maximum.

Jay,
The questions are there already aren't they ?
What's the problem? I dont get it.
Though I like all the ideas.

Post 12 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Monday, 29-Aug-2011 16:34:31

the questions are there, yes, but the answers are not. Someone would have to go through everyone of the questions, and on top of coming up with at least three wrong answers for every one of them, and three wrong answers that at least make enough sense that the correct answer wouldn't be totally obvious, you'd have to code every one so the database would know the right answer. not impossible, no, but very difficult.

Um, I'd think the right answer is there somewhere, but that doesn't hellp for the wrong ones

Post 14 by CrystalSapphire (Uzuri uongo ndani) on Sunday, 11-Sep-2011 14:38:50

you could pick from the wrong answers already given to go with the right.

Post 15 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 11-Sep-2011 16:35:40

Unless the site only keeps track of stats and not the actual answers themselves.

Post 16 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Monday, 12-Sep-2011 11:20:58

the site obviously has to have the right answers stored somewhere, but like I said, someone would have to go through there and come up with at least three wrong answers for *every* one of those questions. I haven't counted, but I know that would take, well, let's just say either someone with no life, or it would take months. At least with a separate multiple choice category in addition to what's already there wouldn't take quite as long to come up with.

Post 17 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 15-Sep-2011 22:48:23

I know. That's why I have ten or so geography questions, fifteen chemistry questions, and 5 biology questions, and writing more as I think of them. These include one right answer and three wrong ones, all correctly spelled, as well as the right answer.

Post 18 by Jeromea (Kahee!) on Thursday, 29-Dec-2011 1:08:09

I agree but leave trivia the same, but have multiple choice. I hate getting it wrong just for spelling the darn word incorrectly.

Post 19 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 29-Dec-2011 14:46:54

Yeah. that is a little controversial, if you ask me. I'm really, really glad it isn't case sensitive, but it would be nice not to get the answer wrong because I forgot a space, or put one in when there shouldn't have been, or, well, you get the point. I can see having to spell the word correctly, but there's a couple where you're supposed to answer in words, and there's no dash where there really should be, and so on.

I do love the original idea but as Jage says, where would ya get the questions; unless some volunteers (either communith leaders or other) could work to put it together. Jage and staff have enough to do without going all over the internet for uncopyrightable material.

excellent sugguestion! Would this only be for premium members, or would it be a sepparate game from the standard trivia?

Post 22 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Friday, 30-Dec-2011 14:06:51

I think the general consensus is that if it were implimented, it would be a separate category of the same game, and you wouldn't be able to win as many points since there's a slight chance you could get the question right even if you don't know the answer.
